LegitSonar is an independent project. It carries no advertising, sells no data, and
takes no money from the sites it assesses — which matters more here than on most
sites, because a trust score that can be bought is not a trust score.
The running costs are a server and a domain name. That is genuinely all, because
the expensive part — assessing six hundred thousand domains — was done once, and
the reports are served from a single file that fits in memory.
Two things follow from that, and it is fairer to say them here than to let you
discover them later. There is no service commitment: the site may
be unavailable, and nothing here is warranted. And the live scanner is
rate limited per visitor, because each scan makes this server send
requests to somebody else's site — which is a cost paid by them, not by us.
If a paid tier ever appears, the free one described above stays. Reports do not
move behind a wall retroactively; that would make every link ever shared to this
site worthless, which is the opposite of the point.
